I'm finally in - anyone else?

Ok folks, there seems to be little interest for this contest - I hope to see more contestants these final days...
I have been busy until now, but I hereby sign on to the contest.
After all, RF has massive possibilities for both rigid and soft body simulations, also in conjunction with fluid simulations.

My draft is as follows:
I enjoy my cup of coffee in the morning, and my useless machine will ensure that I have fresh coffee when I wake up, and both coffee making and waking me up will be secured by this sun triggered device.
A sketch of the mechanism will follow as part of the WIP.

BTW, I use RF4 and C4D 10 on OS X 10.4/G5 dual 2.7 for my work.

See you soon!

Alven

Re: I'm finally in - anyone else?

Hi all, here's my first update.

I had to establish some sort of environment, and see if it works.
The preview is the beginning of the chain, but it works as intended.
Please overlook the shaders in use, I need speed over quality at this point.

There were some initial issues, but they were seemingly based on scale problems.
I increased the size (10 times bigger from C4D) of all items in order to control weight and movement inside RF. This seems to be fine now.

I will keep you posted. Time is limited, I'll get back as soon as I have more...

Regards

Alven [Frank]

[edit] I was kind of trying to upload a Quicktime movie...
Inserted a snapshot instead; the movie can be found here:

Good start. I am looking forward to the coffee...

Yes, it is not possible to upload movies on the forum, only still images.

Re: I'm finally in - anyone else?

Hello again, folks.

I just wanted to apologize for not reporting anything on my contest WIP thread yesterday. Suddenly deadline was dangerously close, and I was totally off track - Murphy's law was highly present. The sim seemed to work fine, but when the animation was taken back to Cinema nothing worked as planned. Then the renders started to look silly, proper lighting was missing, and it was not really the time for testing.

However, the process was truly educating in all aspects. Next time I will consider an earlier start :-)

Here's the render up to total screw-up, one camera, no post, no nothing:

At some time I will post the final result - just for the sake of finishing it.
If you wonder, the intention was to have a solar triggered event, where a magnifying glass burns the tread holding the first ball, triggering two ways - one starts the coffee machine, the other setting off a series of dominoes (shaped as the letters RF...) which finally start a waking process. The goal was to have several spheres swinging into bells as an alarm clock.

Finally I have to say that frothlord's submission is truly fantastic, and it is obvious that tmdag's contribution has all it needs for being stunning. Well done, both of you!

Best regards from Frank [alven]
